Salon Spy: Rookery Hall Spa, Cheshire
Atmosphere and clientele: Attached to the Rookery Hall Hotel near Nantwich in Cheshire (famous for having been the scene of Victoria’s engagement to David Beckham), the spa is a recent addition. Set apart from the main hotel, it has a big swimming pool, excellent fitness facilities and a treatment area, which manages to be both contemporary and extremely comfortable. A café serves light snacks and juices, and all in all the atmosphere is one of health meets beauty, with perhaps a nice glass of wine on the side. The clientele are young, well-heeled and image-conscious, the staff friendly but unfussy.
Products and treatments: The spa uses ESPA products, and follows the principles of this excellent, professional range – namely relaxing aromatherapy oils with an emphasis on luxury and pampering. Our spy combined a Personal Blend Aromatic Facial (£45 for 55 minutes) with a Full Body Massage (£45), 60 minutes of sweet-smelling oils and wonderful hands-on manipulation. The aim of the treatment is to relax and re-invigorate, and our spy felt the benefits for some days afterwards.
Highs: Beautiful countryside, excellent facilities, lovely treatments.
Lows: The slightly corporate feel.
Marks out of five: Four.
